Treating Periodontitis: Keeping All Your Teeth

Periodontitis is a serious gum disease that, untreated, can not only lead to tooth loss, but also can cause bone loss in the jaw. It has also been linked with poor cardiovascular health as well as diabetes. Learn more about this disease and steps you can take to prevent it.

Healthy gums are very important for healthy teeth.

Any inflammation of your gums or your periodontal apparatus (periodontitis) can damage your bite and even cause you to lose teeth. To prevent this from happening, we take steps to stop the process, thus restoring your dental health for the long haul.

We check for signs of periodontitis during your six month cleaning- if we see signs, we will continue further with gentle probing to see if further treatment is needed.

Our periodontal treatment includes:
  • A Deep Scale Cleaning: this removes bacteria and germs from underneath the edge of your gums that may not be removed during a regular cleaning.
  • Arestin: this is a local delivery of antibiotic that gives daily doses of treatment to help heal the tissue connection between your gum and teeth.
